In 2023, I was luckily able to secure unrestricted access to about 1 hectare of land about 9 kms from where I live, alongside the Nemunas river, the largest in Lithuania

This land was unfortunately subject to major excavations and clearance in late 2024 when the landowner decided to enlarge one pond (shown below) and add another larger one as well as removing a significant amount of trees and scrub.  The site will look rather nicer in the future but the habitat was ruined temporarily.

Not all photos were taken there, with others coming from various trips to other parts of Lithuania and not a few from my local walks along another part of the Nemunas which flows within a couple of hundred meters of my flat and which I walk along early every morning.  Quite a few are from other parts of Europe!
